PERCY JACKSON SEA OF MONSTERS CHARITY EVENT

On yesterday December 16 I had the pleasure of being invited out along with my two younger sons ages 10 & 7 to attend Twentieth Fox Home Entertainment Celebration of the December 17th Blu-ray/DVD release of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters with a charity event to support Project Linus at the Georgia Aquarium here in Atlanta. The Charity event consisted of volunteers from UPS, Mommy & Lifestyle Bloggers and their kids. The night began with a red carpet event that included photos and interviews. Shortly thereafter we all proceeded to the Arctic Ballroom where we began the nights festivities by making handmade fleece blankets. The fleece blankets that we made were inspired by the Golden Fleece in the film. Fox has partnered with Project Linus to bring family and friends together to make over 200 handmade fleece blankets for Project Linus’ 15th Annual National Make A Blanket Day which will be held on February 15, 2014.  Up to 200 handmade fleece blankets will be created for children in need as part of Fox’s commitment to donate 1,000 handmade fleece blankets. In conjunction Atlanta-based UPS also served as a partner to last nights event.

Synopsis:

The magical, mythical adventures of teenager Percy Jackson – son of the Greek God Poseidon continue in this heroic, action packed thrill ride! Out to prove he’s not just a “one-guest wonder”, Percy and hos demigod friends embark on an epic. cross-country journey into the treacherous Sea Monsters, where they battle terrifying creatures, an army of zombies, and the ultimate evil. With time running out, Percy must find and bring home the fabled Golden Fleece, which has the power to save the world…and save us all!

I remember when Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters had its opening night at the movies. The week following the opening night my sons secretly made plans on how they would convince me to take them to see the movie on opening night but little did they know that I had already purchased our tickets in advance so that we would be amongst the first to see Percy Jackson’s newest adventure. I am a single mother of three sons ages 17, 10 & 7. I find that I am at the movies seeing more kid movies than adult ones. I will have to admit I think that I was probably more excited to see Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters more than my two younger sons. I was one of those students in school that could not wait until we cover Greek Methodology.

The Project Linus event in my opinion was the perfect event for the release of Percy Jackson’s: Sea of Monsters. The evening was spent with the kids enjoying the movie, great food and communication and an opportunity for my family to give back to others. I believe the highlight of the evening was when my two sons had the opportunity to meet Cashmere (Stephanie Leigh Schlund) from Hunger Games! If you could have seen the excitement in their eyes and the eagerness in their voice. The moment was priceless and as a mother that’s the best feeling in the world. I wasn’t sure if after a fantastic evening anything could top the eventful evening but when the boys asked to see what was in the swag bag they discovered that they had their very own Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters DVD.  Below you will find official pictures from the event.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and UPS celebrate the December 17th Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD(TM) release of Percy Jackson: Sea of  Monsters with an exclusive charity event to support Project Linus at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta on Monday, December 16th. Inspired by the Golden Fleece in the film, event goers made  handmade fleece blankets for kids in need to kick off Project Linus’  annual National Make a Blanket Day on February 15th.

On yesterday London my blogging Elf and I was invited out to attend the Grand Opening of one of the Aio Wireless locations in Decatur where Talking with Tami was the host. I was excited to finally meet her and network with fellow bloggers. Godiva Chocolatier @ Lenox Square Place

   

On last Thursday I was invited to the Godiva Chocolatier Store at Lenox Place here in Atlanta by Oh! Nikka for a bloggers night out event. The evening began with us being greeted by one of the associates with cups of yummy Godiva Dark Hot Chocolate along with wonderful goodie bags filled with chocolate. We were then taken on a tour of the store where we learned about the history of Godiva, where the name originated from and the differences with the chocolates. The evening ended well with me of course purchasing my favorite Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Reindeer Chocolate Lollipops for my two younger sons along with a gift set box of three hot chocolate tins for the kids. The evening ended FABULOUS!!

Black Beauty Sensationnel Hair Awards 2013 in London

My travels continue! On November 29 I boarded my Delta flight for a nine hour flight to London which is the capital city of England and of the United Kingdom. It is the most populous region, urban zone and metropolitan area in the United Kingdom. I flew into London Heathrow Airport although there are several others to choose from this is the largest and it’s the only one that I know my way around. On my previous visit to London I became very familiar with their Tube which is one of their public transportation services. In my opinion the Tube and the Bus services are very easy to learn and will help in getting you around this beautiful city. Once I arrived it was Saturday early morning so after gathering my luggage I headed to exit that lead me to the Lube system so I could purchase a one day pass and start my ventures to the hotel.

The ride on the Tube was about thirty minutes to my hotel. I stayed at the Hilton London Metropole which also where the awards ceremony where I was presenting an award was being held. Upon arriving to the Hotel there were already many people waiting to check-in so I had a seat in the bar area and chatted with a few fellow guest. The concierge quickly found me to let me know that my room was ready and once I checked in and had my bags taken to my room I headed out to shop on Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus.  If you have never visited London and plan to travel there someday you have got to go shopping in both areas. London has every store plus ones you can not even imagine all one a huge strip. London is actually preparing for Christmas so the streets are always jam-packed with people shopping up and down at all of the stores. I discovered these areas on my last trip to London a few years ago and I can tell you that I shopped so hard on the last trip until my luggage was overweight from clothes, shoes and souvenirs. I had a great time out shopping and of course I shopped every single day that I was there on this trip.

On Sunday I had the honor of attending the Black Beauty Sensationnel Hair Awards Ceremony where my sister and I were presenting the award for the braid stylist of the year on behalf of Jamaican Mango & Lime, the number one Loc & Twist Brand in the World. The evening started with a reception where the presenters, recipients and guest had an opportunity to meet and mingle with each other before the dinner and ceremony began. Shortly thereafter we presented the award and danced into the wee hours of the morning. I’m looking forward to my next trip to London in a few months!

Three Events In Two Days

OH! NIKKA PINK AND PURPLE BRUNCH

I can truly say that I am living my life! I had the pleasure of attending four different events in two days on last weekend. My Saturday started out with an amazing Pink and Purple Brunch for Oh! Nikka which was held at The Lobby Bar & Bistro located in Atlantic Station here in Atlanta. I have visited The Lobby several times and I have always enjoyed myself and they provide a great brunch menu with a variety of items to choose from so if your ever in Atlanta this is the place to visit.  I almost forgot the “Bottomless Mimosa’s” are amazing!

  

  

NATURAL GIRLS ROCK CHRISTMAS PARTY 2013

I had a great time attending The Natural Girls Rock Christmas Party with my sister Alisha. We had a great time meeting fellow naturals and vendors from the surrounding Atlanta area.

 

            

FOREVER PINK FOUNDATION’S BEST MAN PREMIERE

I had the pleasure of attending the second annual Forever Pink Foundation Movie Premiere on last weekend.The Forever Pink Foundation was created by chapters of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. I attended their first premiere for “SPARKLE” starring Whitney Houston. This year we had the pleasure of supporting the ladies with their second premiere fund-raiser and they chose THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY. If you have never attended one of their events then you are indeed missing out because these ladies know how to host an amazing event and raise money for their communities. The night was filled with excitement leading up to the movie beginning along with swag bags, raffles and great prizes. The Forever Pink Foundation had two jammed packed theatres for THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY premiere. I was blessed to be apart and I can not wait until their next event!

GIVING IS GLAM!!!!!

On last night I attended the Giving Is Glam Canned Food Drive at Chef Rob’s Upscale Lounge in Roswell. This was my first time ever visiting Chef Rob’s. This was a charitable event hosted by the following bloggers: @iamlilliemae @iammsbotalley @beautyarchitect @virtuousstyls @ritakaydavis @prettysmartbiz and @kiwithebeauty. The evening was full of networking, photos and great food. Since this was my first time at the restaurant I decided to order their pan seared crab cakes. Let me just say that I was not in the less bit worried about the taste because Chef Rob has an reputation that far exceeds many fellow Chefs. OMG! The crab cake was to amazing. I enjoyed a glass of white wine which they just happen to be having a $5.00 special and a slice of his famous Cheesecake. Let’s just say that I was in Heaven. The evening was a huge hit! I was also one of the twitter winners too! They don’t call me the “Social Media Queen” for nothing. I had a fantastic time and I was able to meet many of my fellow Diva Bloggers. Mayor Kasim Reed is elected for a Second Term

Tuesday the election for the Mayor of Atlanta was held throughout various counties to select the Mayor for The City of Atlanta. The polls were packed as everyone rushed out to cast their votes. Mayor Kasim Reed was on the ballot running against three other candidates for Mayor as well as District 11 Council Member Keisha Lance Bottoms. The citizens of Atlanta and surrounding counties patiently for the results to come in to reveal the elected officials. I decided to end the weeks of campaigning through Social Media by attending Mayor Kasim Reed Celebration Party that was being held downtown at our Hyatt Regency located on Peachtree Street. Upon arrival the night was filled of Mayor Reeds supporters. A host of Legislators, Congressional & Council Members, Mentors and Supporters began to rapidly fill the ballroom and mingle amongst each other as we patiently awaited the results to be announced. The night continued and the results were finally announced and the crowd went wild when they learned that Mayor Kasim Reed was elected into his second term as the Mayor of Atlanta. Mayor Kasim Reed made his entrance and blessed the crowd with a heart warmth speech that touched every ones heart. This was truly a remarkable experience for me and I am truly bless to witness this joyous moment in history. Congratulations to Mayor Kasim Reed, Council Woman Keisha Bottoms and all of the winners.

The Duty of Design Launch Party

The Duty of Design Launch Party was my last event that participated in on last Saturday. The Duty of Design Party was held in a loft in Atlantic Station. Mayor Kasim Reed Sponsors the 2013 Forever Young Senior Ball

 

I was honored to be a guest this year at Mayor Kasim Reed’s 2013 Forever Young Senior Ball that was held at Atlanta Marriott Marquis hotel located in beautiful downtown Atlanta. The night was filled with thousands of our wonderful Senior Citizens dressed to the nines in elegant ballroom dresses, evening gowns and tuxedos. Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed has made the ball an annual event since taking office four years ago. The Forever Young Senior Ball allows the Seniors to come out and have a night of amazing food and dancing the night away to new age and oldies. The Seniors always have a great time with each other and I can honestly say that this was indeed a memorable night. I had the honor of dancing the night away with them. Our Mayor surprised the crowd by engaging in “the wobble dance” as he went from ballroom to ballroom to greet his guest.. The ball was amazing and I can’t wait until next year. I hope to see you there!

ROC THE NIGHT AT ROC HOUSE FITNESS W/ NIKKA SHAE

On Thursday October 30 I had the pleasure of being a guest of Oh! Nikka ROC THE HOUSE event which was held at Roc House Fitness. Roc House Fitness is located an Buckhead and if you haven’t had the opportunity to stop by and visit you are indeed missing out.  Roc House Fitness was founded by former NBA point guard and philanthropist Larry Hughes.  The Spa is located in the premiere Atlanta neighborhood of Buckhead, and caters to the maverick ROC mom, fiery fitness fanatic, bustling business woman, courageous first-timer committed to changing her life, and every woman in between” (www.rochousefitnessspa.com). The facility provides full services that include: Personal Training, Innovative work out classes, Virtual Spin Studio, Nail Care Bar, Hair Salon, Luxury Spa, All Natural Cafe & Sun Patio, Smoothie & Juice Bar and a Retail Boutique.

The night begin with all of the lovely ladies arriving and after an introduction session we all took photos and then we all headed over to the spa for massages and nail services. While enjoying our massages and spa services we were served mimosa’s as we became familiar with one another.

  

   

We were taken on a tour of the facility after we finished our spa services. The facility in my opinion is a five-star spa. I have been to many spas and Roc House Fitness has managed to provide all of the services that a businesswoman like myself would look for in an upscale spa. The class that we took was a “BEAST”. The instructor worked us and worked us some more. Let’s just say even I was excited to hear her say “Now lets walk in out”.

Boy was I happy when the session was over. I work out but as I stated earlier the instructor was a “BEAST”. We went to the cafe to have some girl talk, drink mimosa’s and have a light refreshment. Oh! Nikka was also hosting a contest for the most hash tagged pictures posted on both Instagram and Twitter. The winners were selected and of course yours truly was one of them…”MISS SOCIAL MEDIA QUEEN”. I won a three-day pass to the spa and I will indeed be redeeming them soon. The Roc House Fitness will be my go to spa to  release stress and get an extreme workout.
